About The Traveler's Trust

What we cover, how we research it, and how we make money.

Most travel advice is written for a traveller who does not exist. It averages a student on a year abroad, a family at half term, a contractor flying with four thousand pounds of camera gear and a 72-year-old booking a cruise into one imaginary person, and ends up useful to none of them.

We write for one of them at a time. Every article on this site says who it is for, because the honest answer to "is this cover worth it?" or "which of these should I buy?" changes completely depending on who is asking.

What we cover

Everything that comes with travelling rather than the travelling itself. That means insurance and what policies actually exclude, the kit you carry and whether it survives the journey, and the practical mechanics that go wrong at the worst moment: documents, health, money, connectivity, borders.

We are not a destination blog. There are better places to read about where to go.

How we research

Our insurance writing comes from policy wordings, insurer documentation and published consumer guidance, checked against what is in force at the time of writing. Our product writing comes from manufacturer specifications, independent testing and owner reports.

We do not invent figures. Where a number varies by provider, country or date — and in insurance it almost always does — we tell you where to look it up rather than quoting one that will be wrong by the time you read it. We also do not claim to have personally tested every product we compare, because we have not, and saying otherwise would be the easiest lie on the internet to tell.

Articles are researched and drafted with the help of AI tools and reviewed before publication. We think you should know that, because plenty of sites in this space do the same thing and do not say so.

How we make money

Two ways, both of which you should know about while you read.

When you buy through a link on this site we may earn a commission, at no extra cost to you. When you request an insurance quote we may be paid by the providers we introduce you to.

Neither changes what we recommend, and neither buys a place in an article. A product with no affiliate programme can still win a comparison here, and frequently does. If we ever cannot recommend anything in a category, we would rather say so than pad the page with something we do not rate.

Getting it wrong

Policies change, products get discontinued, and rules at borders move faster than anyone would like. If you find something on this site that is out of date or simply wrong, tell us and we will correct it. That is worth more to us than being right the first time.
